Who we are
We amplify the voices of survivors, driving actionable change through authentic insights and recommendations.
Our Vision
A world where every survivor's voice is heard, every insight sparks action, and every community is equipped to create meaningful, lasting change.
Our Mission
To amplify the authentic voices of sexual assault and gender-based violence survivors, fostering understanding, truth, and systemic change by encouraging honest, constructive dialogue and actionable recommendations—one story, one insight, one change at a time.
Our Origin Story
JUST ONE THING began with a simple but powerful realization: while big, sweeping changes in the justice system are important, they are rare—and most agencies aren’t built for massive overhauls. After years of working on reform efforts, we saw firsthand how slow progress can be. All the while, survivors are still waiting for support, healing, and real change.
We started to ask ourselves: What if change didn’t have to be all or nothing? What if even one small insight from a survivor could make things better for the next person? What if communities, organizations, and families could learn directly from those who’ve lived through it?
Now, more than ever, we believe in the power of authentic voices—real stories from real people. In a world overflowing with information, it’s these honest, lived experiences that truly connect us, spark empathy, and inspire meaningful action. Technology can deliver facts and figures, but only human stories can bridge the gap between understanding and change.
That’s where JUST ONE THING comes in. We believe every story matters, and that even the smallest suggestion can spark progress. By making space for survivors to anonymously share their “just one thing”—and by passing those insights along to the people who can use them—we’re creating a ripple effect of understanding, empathy, and action.
We know transformation is a journey. We may not be able to fix everything at once, but together—one story, one insight, one change at a time—we can build a more responsive and compassionate system for everyone.
Our Approach
-
Amplifying Survivor Voices
We create safe, trauma-informed opportunities including anonymous online submissions and pop-up events where survivors can anonymously share their "just one thing": a single, actionable insight that could have improved their experience with law enforcement, healthcare, schools, workplaces, the justice system, or family and friends. These authentic stories and recommendations are then shared with the audiences who most need to hear them, driving practical improvements and fostering empathy.
-
Driving Actionable Change
By collecting and aggregating these insights, we equip organizations, communities, and families with real survivor-driven feedback. Our consulting, speaking engagements, and training sessions use this data to guide policy, training, and cultural change—moving beyond awareness to concrete action.
-
Community Responsibility
We believe preventing and addressing sexual and gender-based violence is a collective responsibility. Our resources and events engage not only professionals but also families, friends, and the broader community, empowering everyone to play a role in supporting survivors and creating safer environments.
